“A member of the Greatest Generation, George served in the Army in World War II under General Bradley. He was awarded the Bronze Star for bravery for the invasion of Italy. The Bronze Star was awarded for actions in the initial beach landing. In between the German strafing of the beaches (every 10 minutes) he and his other Transportation crew would clear out the disabled vehicles shot up by the Germans, and clear them out of the blocked path in order for the landing forces to establish and secure the beach head. They would duck for cover as soon as they heard the German airplanes coming again.”
