Black History Month: Jesse Owens

WaveLink, Inc. is celebrating Black History Month with a special focus on recognizing the significant contributions of Black Alabamians.

Jesse Owens, considered one of the world’s premier athletes in track and field, was born in Oakfield, AL. The first American to win four gold medals in a single Olympics, he also broke two world records and winning gold in the 100 meters, long jump, 200 meters and 4×100 meter relay at the 1936 Berlin Games. While running for Ohio State University at the Ben Ten Championships the year before, Jesse shattered three world records and tied another, considered the greatest single performance in his sport. Jesse Owens Memorial Park, located near his birthplace, is dedicated to his stories, his sport, and his legend.
